The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Follows Lukewarm Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed employees about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete message from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a sharper vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.
His management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in greeting him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue observing the development of the game in the months to ahead.
David

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that evolve every match. Do you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The choice is yours."
The game lacks an announced launch window or consoles, but fans can anticipate further news as creation progresses.
