The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The former head of state was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This encompassed seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a document approving the detention, the magistrate said intelligence from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a meeting of his supporters near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

His son wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your couch? I invite you to fight with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could "pray for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's determination was the possibility of his "relocation to foreign missions near the home, considering that the probes revealed a record of planning to request asylum through a embassy office", a statement said.

The court filing emphasizes that the United States embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.

International Reactions

Bolsonaro's legal woes have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist US President President Trump, causing him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being held in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will have a imprisonment assessment on the next day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on last Friday that the his legal team asked the High Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be permitted to leave his home for medical care, saying he needed frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other ailments.

Background on Conviction

The former president was determined responsible of leading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a plan which encompassed plans to assassinate his opponent and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been overseeing his judicial proceedings.

The conspiracy was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the military leaders. Lula was took office without issue on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on 8 January, many Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged government buildings in the federal district, the capital city.

The law enforcement stepped in and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The justices found that the rioters had been incited by him whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, restore order and bring him back to power.

At the moment, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from running for public office until the year 2060 - eight years after the completion of his term.

The one-time head of state called the court case a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him competing in the next presidential race.
