A group of six quirky but brave youngsters fall into the way of a vast and terrible otherworldly evil that has invaded our world from the deepest abyss of oblivion. They have no choice but to wage a lifelong battle fighting it, facing horror after horror in the ordeal.

An Echoing Plot with a New Spin

This describes the premise, broadly speaking, of the master of horror’s seminal work It (arguably his finest; undeniable). It parallels of the celebrated author’s heir Joseph Hillstrom King’s latest massive horror novel, in which six friends invoke the primordial, utterly malevolent beast King Sorrow from the Endless Night to help them defeat some antagonists. As one might expect, their otherworldly invocation goes awry.

Acknowledging a Literary Legacy

The author started his career making great efforts to avoid any connection from his famous father, using the pseudonym he maintains to this day and steering clear of encounters with his agent (he exhibits a strong similarity to his dad). Yet with this recent release, he fully acknowledges it. Several quotes that consciously reflect some of his father’s iconic (the famous Dark Tower introduction); a scene that brings to mind a recurring theme in King’s works (a game of puzzles). Throughout this massive book, the author rejoices in his heritage, and readers share in the joy.

Meet the Central Figures

Returning to the group: the majority are students at the imagined this academic setting in the New England state. First is Arthur, studious and brilliant, cracking ancient puzzles in his leisure hours; Colin, wealthy, clever, and known for crushing obstacles in his path; the twin siblings; the beautiful Allie herself. As our protagonist states: “You invoke terrible forces, all you get is further monstrosities.”

Narrative Dexterity and Imaginative Range

Moving through four decades, the author shifts with seamless grace across narrative styles: as the allies endeavor to address the situation they find themselves in by, variously, selecting clearly malevolent individuals to offer up, or searching for methods to kill the dragon themselves, we transition from thriller to dark fantasy, black-ops torture to affectionate subplot to horror. One particularly memorable shift was to a adventure narrative, deep in the caves beneath this UK region, a section infused with the fantasy maestro that was wonderfully frightening.

A Detailed Canvas of Horror and Optimism

There are trolls – bridge-dwelling ones and internet antagonists, truly terrifying and perfectly brought to life. There are magical swords and treacheries, pulse-pounding sequences of bravery and ones of dreadful evil, both mortal and supernatural. It’s a tour de force: a chilling book that is above all a ode to the creative spirit, and to devotion and companionship. “We longed for a tale to embrace and {now we’ve got one|presently we possess it|currently we hold it,” says the wealthy student as the companions gather at the table, getting ready to invoke their dragon into existence with the strength of their collective will.

As Hill puts it in his epigraph: “This is dragon territory”. Do not overlook this.
