Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
